The Indefatigable Frog - Artwork by Andrew May.

"Dating from 1953, this is one of Dick's earliest short stories. The subject of the dispute is Zeno's paradox - about whether a frog can escape from a tunnel if each step it takes is half the length of the previous one..."

The Turning Wheel - Artwork by Andrew May.

"Dick wrote this short story in 1954. I liked the central image of a turning wheel, which calls to mind the Wheel of Life from the Tarot pack, the Buddhist Wheel of Samsara, and the Feng Shui cycle of the elements."

The Secret of Ahbor Valley - by John Meluch. (file size: 85K)

This digital collage was inspired by Talbot Mundy's classic, adventure/mystical thriller OM, THE SECRET OF AHBOR VALLEY which was written in 1924. The image illustrates one of the key scenes of this most remarkable story.

Monitors From Sirius - by John Meluch. (file size: 48K)

I first became acquainted with the Dogon/Sirius connection when I read VALIS in 1993. Upon reading Tractate 50, I initially believed that Phil had fabricated the entire notion of three-eyed, amphibious, extraterrestials with pincer claws who visited an ancient African tribe called the Dogon.

It wasn't until last year (1999), that I discovered a very strange book while doing some research at the local library that my views changed regarding this matter . . .

Valis Rising - by John Meluch. (file size: 80K)

The idea for VALIS RISING was first conceived in 1995. Symbolically, VALIS as the rising sun, represents the illuminating nature of the novel on nine other novels which comprise a major portion of Phil's ten volume "metanovel".

Omega Est Alpha - by John Meluch. (file size: 74K)

The sun in the image is both the rising and setting sun as the act of death is also a new beginning. The gold icon symbolizes this notion also signifies the title of this piece: "Omega Est Alpha". The end is the beginning.

Cosmic Reverie - by John Meluch. (file size: 68K)

This image began as a very simple experiment: try to combine the figure of Atlas with an actual photograph of Earth (Gaia) as seen from an orbiting satellite. I hope that the effect on the viewer will also create a dream-like sense of wonder about the cosmos.....perhaps not unlike my own "cosmic reverie".

Madonna Serpentum - by John Meluch. (file size: 60K)

In creating the image of the Madonna Serpentum I am attempting to combine a number of different traditions surrounding the symbol of the serpent which has had almost nothing but evil attributed to it by Christianity.

Cthulhu - by John Meluch. (file size: 68K)

This image is an expression of the Cthulhu MYTHOS written by H. P. Lovecraft. CTHULHU includes a "time window" which is set in the long, long ago eon of the "Great Old Ones" and looks ahead to the ruins of present day Stonehenge. It is the sequel to 'Porta Temporis'. (see below)

PORTA TEMPORIS - by John Meluch. (file size: 64K)

The theme depicted in "Porta Temporis" (Latin for "time window"), is one that illustrates an idea which has appeared in the works of science fiction since the first sightings of UFO's in the post WWII era.

MELUSINE - by John Meluch. (file size: 83K)

The figure of MELUSINE (or Melusina), is truly an archetypal image that can be found in mythologies and legends the world over.In the legendary lore of all these people, there are tales of the enchantment of mortal men by a magical, water-sprite or mermaid....MELUSINE.

EROS - by John Meluch. (file size: 99K)

A gnostic inspired image, EROS uses the interior of Amiens Cathedral as a backdrop. Combining unlikely symbols and familiar images, the real interpretation of the image lies entirely in the mind/imagination of the beholder.

Sophia - by John Meluch. (file size: 101K)

"With this image, I was trying to unite all of the possible opposites conveyed in the polyvalent image of the feminine. So much of this lies entirely in the mind of the beholder. To some this entire image is the height of blasphemy......to me it is a heiroglyph of the deepest of mysteries."

The Millennium Pilgrim - New Version! - by John Meluch. (file size: 75K)

"Here, the pilgrim is seen leaving the Black Iron Prison and is entering the Palm Tree Garden. His vision is no longer occluded and he is seeing the world with new eyes.....in the words of the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas: "The Kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the Earth, but men do not see it." He now sees it! The symbol in the lower right hand corner is "The Fallen City".....the one in the upper left hand corner is the ancient angram of The Christ."

Spiritual Pilgrim - Thanks to John & Emily Meluch for this hand colored medieval woodcut. It portrays the shift of consciousness which occurred at the dawn of the age of science or "Enlightment". There is interesting symbolism, in many ways related to Dick's own style.

Black Iron Prison - An intrepretaion by John Meluch.
"You will probably recognize the figure in the foreground as the haunting image from Edvard Munch's THE SCREAM. The image of the Christ hovering over the city is a from a lino-cut by me which I did many, many years ago." -JM
